In athletic parlance, a glory hound is a guy who's always trying to make the highlight reel; a hotdog, a ball hog, the guy who needs to be the center of attention. That doesn't always work in sports but it's sure as hell what you'd expect of someone in a rock'n'roll band and, make no mistake, Gloryhound is a Rock'n'Roll Band...

Like a 21st century version of Halifax forerunners Thrush Hermit, Gloryhound are four high school friends that got together to bash out "old-fashioned" rock music for no other reason than the sheer joy of turning up the practice space amps to emulate heroes like Iggy Pop, The Ramones and Alice Cooper. They kept at it. They put in their hours. They learned to play, and we can imagine they spent time mining rock's classic pantheon for more than just the riffage.

While they were still teenagers, Gloryhound cut its teeth on gritty Halifax stages as handpicked guests of kindred road warrior spirits like Matt Mays & El Torpedo, The Novaks and The Trews, and subscribe to the same work ethic: there's no substitute for playing live.

The band recently released its first independently produced CD - Leave It Alone (produced by Robbie Crowell, mixed by Lil Thomas and mastered by Fred Kevorkian) - and its 13 tracks are a snapshot of what this outfit is capable of. From the Thin Lizzy-ish, "Back To Life" to, "Surrounded By Nothing," which wouldn't be out of place on Alice Cooper's classic Billion Dollar Babies album, Gloryhound serves notice that not only have they paid attention in class but they're ready to give their teachers a serious run for their money... With all due respect, of course!
